Information For Patients Regarding Wuhan Novel Coronavirus Infection

All travellers who develop relevant symptoms ( for example respiratory symptoms, shortness of breath, cough, fever) however mild, within 14 days of returning or transitioning from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau should not attend the practice, but should remain at home and immediately call NHS 111 for advice.

In cases of emergencies phone 501177. A Doctor will be contacted for advice as soon as possible. Please give clear instructions over the phone.

Protected Learning Time

Please note the Surgery will be closed from 1.30pm for training and development (and not open again until 8am on the following day) on the following dates:

  • 17th October
  • 20th November
  • 23rd January
  • 19th February
  • 19th March

If you need medical advice during these times please call 111. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This is in accordance with a Government initiative to enhance staff training. Notices of these closures are posted around the surgery. Emergencies are covered by MKUCS during this period.

The Watling Vale Medical Centre

Established since 1987, the Watling Vale Medical Centre has been serving the Milton Keynes community health needs for over 25 years.

The Surgery is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6.30pm and we have full disabled access.

NHS England example publication of GP Net Earnings 2018/19

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (eg average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs who worked for six months or more in Watling Vale Medical Centre in the last financial year was £71056 before Tax and National insurance.

This is for 3 full time 4 part time and 1 locum GPs.

Local NHS Services

As well as our Practice, there are many other local NHS services you can contact for health advice, information or treatment. Before you do, remember that you can treat many minor ailments such as coughs, colds and indigestion by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home. We suggest you keep the following:

  • Paracetamol and Aspirin (children under 16 and people with Asthma should not take Aspirin)
  • Mild laxatives
  • Anti-diarrhoeal mixtures
  • Rehydration mixture
  • Indigestion remedy (for example, antacids)
  • Travel sickness tablets
  • Sunscreen - SPF15 or higher
  • Sunburn treatment (for example, calamine)
  • Tweezers and sharp scissors
  • A medical thermometer
  • A selection of plasters, non-absorbent cotton wool, elastic bandages and dressings

Carers

Do you look after a family member, friend or neighbour who through illness, disability or frailty cannot manage without you? If so, you are a carer and we would like to help. Carers need:

  • Recognition of their role
  • Opportunities for a break from caring
  • Care for their own health
  • Emotional support
  • Accessible information from reliable services

If you are, please let us know - we may be able to help you.

At the Medical Centre we try to know who our carers are, so we can offer them advice, support and encouragement.

Advantages of being registered as a carer:

  • We can see you are a carer and the information will help your GP when planning your medical care and support
  • You will be invited for annual flu vaccination
  • We can provide contacts for carer groups and information

Watling Vale Medical Centre works alongside Carers MK who specialise in supplying support and advice for carers of all ages. Helping your healthcare routine fit your lifestyle

Not everyone can access their GP surgery during its normal opening hours. SystmOne helps by letting you manage your appointments and repeat medication over the internet.

All you need to do is speak to practice staff to get your user name and password. Then you can start using the SystmOne Service.

  • SystmOne is available to patients 24 hours a day. 365 days a year.
  • The SystmOne service has been developed and tested using standards set out by a government body called Health and Social Care Information Centre.
  • All personal information used by SystmOne is secure and protected. It is only available to staff at your practice who have appropriate security controls.
  • Avoid the queue
  • View, book and cancel appointments, view and request medication and fill out online questionnaires - all using a quick and easy online services.

Managing your appointments online

Booking your next appointment over the internet is easy. You can do it any time without waiting for surgery phone lines to open. So, whether it's the middle of the night, your lunch break at work, or even if you are away on holiday, you can login and secure an appointment within seconds.

Forgotten when your appointment is? Login to SystmOne and see it. You can also change the time or cancel your appointment if it's no longer needed.

Manage your medication online

If you find it hard to get to the practice to order your next repeat prescription, SystmOne could make your life easier.

Simply login to SystmOne and view a list of the medication you have been prescribed. Select the prescription you need and click the 'Request Medication' button.

All you have to do then is go and collect your prescription as normal whenever its ready.

Need to change your details?

With SystmOne it's easy. Just login and change your phone numbers or address.

You can also complete questionnaires online to monitor specific health issues or give feedback on your practice.
